The Flag Project

Past Event

Large flags celebrating Nelson’s artistic past, present and future.

In August, renowned, award-winning Auckland artist Miranda Brown ran workshops in Nelson with local community groups and schools to learn what they love about Nelson. From these workshops she took home over 600 drawings and has used them to inspire the design for 30 large flags. The flags were up in Founders Heritage Park while Festival events were on there. They have been taken down from the park, but some will be on display in the centre of Nelson for Masked Parade & Carnivale.

Thank you to everyone who took part in The Flag Project workshops. We hope you enjoy the results.

Miranda Brown is a multimedia artist and two-time winner of the World of WearableArt, with her work held in collection at Te Papa, and her flags having appeared at WOMAD, Splore and on the Auckland waterfront.
